I don’t do weddings & I don’t do web design

Picture: Softball / baseball bridal cake toppers on wedding cake. Despite being solely meant to represent two people that play sports, the ladies at this wedding seemed to get some special amusement out of how the bride appeared to be getting ready to strike the groom upside the head with a baseball bat.

I’ve always said I don’t do windows, weddings, or web design. It can still be said that I don’t do windows.

Rarely have I ever let a couple weeks lapse between blog posts, so I just wanted to keep everyone posted as to what I’ve been doing. I’ve shot my first (and likely only) wedding as a favor to some close friends, delivered several print orders to clients, spent an afternoon shooting on the coast, and oh yes, lots and lots of web re-design work.

As for the wedding, it’d been nearly my entire photographic career since I shot a family event. I came away with a greater renewed appreciation for photographers who really excel at shooting people and weddings.

As for the web design, it’s currently the thing that’s keeping me up into the wee hours of the AM. I’ve finally gotten my newly-designed web site template delivered. That’s why I’m in such a heavy (and silent) crunch mode before diving full steam into shooting for my book project. Fortunately the Northern California Storm Door opened, giving me a whole bunch of extra office days. However, in order for me to do anything with web design, CSS, or HTML, I’m the type of person that has to change one thing, click reload to see how it looks, and repeat the process 10,000 times before I get things to work or look right.

Despite the delay, I’m really excited at how well the new design looks. Each day I re-build a little more content, I get a little more excited about seeing the new site go “live”. My current web site was due for retirement several years ago, if not sooner.

Click here if you’d like to get a sneak peek at how the new web site will look.

  • Wow, your website is looking amazing! I couldn’t have handled more then a peak!

  • Cindi says:

Oh my goodness…too funny! The peak looks good though. Can’t wait to see more. The 10,000 checks is a good thing, then it will look perfect!

Heh, twitter works – that’s how I saw your note about the new redesign. Yes, 10,000 checks is a good idea but be prepared – you’ll still find things or others will, that will need tweaking after you launch. I did, after exhaustive testing, just things about different browsers and computers can create issues. But all in all, the upfront checking will ensure it comes off the assembly line looking very good from the start, and minor updates will not be a problem for any of us. Whatever you do you do with quality in mind, Gary, so I can’t wait to see it! Keep on, my friend, during these dark rainy days of ours…

I totally feel your pain re:webdesign as I have just done mine as well. It looks like it was well worth the effort though. Looking great.
As for wedding photography, my usual line is always “I already have a job I don’t like that pays well” :).
