Sentinel Rock in Clouds, Yosemite Valley

Sentinel Rock is located toward the eastern part of Yosemite Valley. This huge granite rock cliff rises nearly vertical from the floor of Yosemite Valley. In winter, spring, and fall, storms that sweep across the Sierra Nevada and over Yosemite National Park often cause Yosemite Valley to fill with clouds, mist, or fog, giving the valley such wonderfully atmospheric conditions. I caught this photo as the clouds were just starting to part over Sentinel Rock, allowing a little extra light on this scene, transforming it from a lifeless gray and cold scene, to an image of these mountains in a slightly warmer, more ethereal mist and clouds.
