The sheer granite cliff walls of El Capitan rise over 3,000 feet from the floor of Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park. A world famous location for rock climbing and an iconic landmark within Yosemite Valley, El Capitan really does look like the largest chuck of granite rock you'll eve see. When clouds and storms roll into the Sierra Nevada, the mountains form an almost impenetrable wall of landscape, to which the clouds then just hug and maneuver around. Here a clearing storm allows the clouds to part along the Salathe Wall of El Capitan in the late afternoon, giving the cold granite wall a warm colorful glow.
