The Gates of Yosemite Valley is one of the most iconic photographic locations in all of Yosemite Valley. Situated right along side the banks of the Merced River, this location is a popular place for photographers and tourist year round. Just beyond the Merced River, the granite monolith known as El Capitan rises several thousand feet above the valley floor on the left (north) side of the valley, while on the other side of Yosemite Valley, Cathedral Rocks and Bridalveil Fall graces the right side of the frame.
This image was shot as the last light of a winter day settled over Yosemite Valley, while mist from the snow-covered valley floor gently rose into the cold still air of the Sierra, while the Merced River flowed quietly in the foreground.
