A note about the images: These Death Valley photos and pictures of Death Valley National Park in California feature some of my best natural desert landscape images and have been taken over a number of trips to this beautiful, but dry, barren, and harsh region. Death Valley National Park, for those who don’t know, is located in the eastern part of southern California and is part of the Mojave Desert.

Also noteworthy of these Death Valley photos in this gallery is that they contain pictures of well-known iconic desert landscapes within the park, including the most-popular tourist destinations. Among these locations are pictures of Zabriskie Point, where photographers line up to photograph the sunrise light on the pointed Manly Beacon. Another famous Death Valley location included here are pictures of Badwater, the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level. Located nearly a mile above Badwater (vertically) are pictures of Dante’s View with photos that look out over Death Valley and the Panamint Mountains.

There are also Death Valley photos of the Racetrack Playa in a remote section of Death Valley National Park which is reached by a long, rugged, and isolated dirt road. These special Death Valley photos show the mysterious moving rocks that leave paths along the dry desert floor. It was recently discovered the moving rocks result from the rocks sliding on a thin layer of ice and pushed by strong desert winds.

This gallery also includes classic desert landscape pictures and Death Valley photos of sand dunes. The best known dune fields in Death Valley National Park are the pictures of Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes which are located near Stovepipe Wells. Other Death Valley photos are of the Eureka Dunes in the remote Eureka Valley. The Eureka Sand Dunes are impressive, reaching over 600 feet high.
