This is the scene looking over the rock cliff edge of Vernal Fall waterfall on the Merced River. The Vernal Fall waterfall lies part way up the Grand Staircase of the Merced River, along one of Yosemite National Park's most popular hiking trails, The Mist Trail, which climbs out of Yosemite Valley. This image looks down over the 318-foot high waterfall, as a strong stream of water rushes out over the edge, and plunges downstream between the forest trees and rocky cliffs.

I stood at this very spot the same morning, just a small number of hours before three people died after getting swept into the Merced River, and the rushing water then carried them over the edge of the waterfall to their deaths. (Didactic Moment) Some signs, like those that say "Danger, Waterfall; Don't climb over railing," are really worth paying attention to, and sometimes not worth ignoring the risk.
