A note about the images: My only formal education in photography was an elective art class, Photography 101, as an introduction to photography and for the fact that I thought it would be an easy class for my last year as an undergraduate. The class was dedicated to Black and White photography. It was where I first learned to shoot and process black and white photos using film and make B&W prints in the darkroom along using all the various chemicals for processing.

I began by taking Black and White photos of subjects and landscapes close to the college, which was the first time I started to explore the world with a camera. One of the harder aspects I learned was trying to see the world in Black and White, the way the film sees the world. During my Master’s Degree, I did my first paid job as a photographer shooting black and white images of the Theater Department stage productions.

I always loved the great Black and White landscape photography of Ansel Adams. During college and afterwards, I had the photo pages of many Ansel Adams photo calendars decorating the walls of my apartments.  After several decades of having dedicated myself to the pursuit of color in landscape photography, I’ve recently turned my attention back to the roots of Black and White Photography as a visual medium. My Fine Art Black and White Photos, B&W Landscapes, and other monochromatic subjects are created now using a digital darkroom, primarily with a combination of Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Nik Silver Effects Software.
