This location-centric weekend photo retreat will focus on the area of the Point Reyes Headlands, Chimney Rock, the Lighthouse, and the Historic Lifeboat Station. The class incorporates guided shoots in the field and classroom presentations. The field sessions will focus on taking a visual assessment of subject and lighting conditions, or looking for the more subtle subject matter, and how best to photographically capture subjects through composition, use of camera settings, and lens selection. We will also spend time learning how to work on images after-capture, including editing and post-processing using programs like Lightroom and Photoshop. Class presentations will cover topics like developing strong personal vision and digital imaging. The workshop concludes with a photo critique and review of the work that was created over the weekend. The class will involve some short-distance light hiking over slightly uneven terrain.

-Accommodations are included at the Chief’s House

Photographing the Beaches of Point Reyes; a 3-Day Photo Workshop

October 13 – 15, 2017

Grab your camera and let’s go explore the beaches of Point Reyes National Seashore in this great photo workshop. Along the way, you’ll learn many tips and tricks aimed at helping you improve your photographic vision. If you have a passion for the ocean, beaches, rocks, waves, and dunes, and you love capturing them through the lens of your camera, you’ll love this class. From dawn to dusk and beyond, from low tides to high tides, from sandy shorelines and rocky coves, we’ll pack plenty of variety into our field excursions. In addition, there will be both in-field photo demonstrations and classroom presentations designed to help you create those stunning images of a wonderfully special place.

Why take a photo workshop, class, or tour from me?

I love teaching and working with people on a close and intensive basis. I find out what you want to learn, or what you are having trouble with, then I custom-tailor an experience to focus on your priorities. In most cases, workshops will also include a portfolio review of your existing shots, and a review of images taken in the field.

I’ve been leading private workshops and tours for more than 10 years. Prior to that, I spent nearly a decade assisting and helping to instruct students in more that thirty of Galen Rowell’s Mountain Light Photo Workshops while he was based in Berkeley and Emeryville.

If you would like to find out more about hiring me for yourself or a small group, please contact me by phone or email.
