Moon over Taft Point
Photo: Moonset at dawn from Taft Point above Yosemite Valley, Yosemite National Park, California
This image of a nearly full moon setting over Yosemite Valley as seen from Taft Point was one of those photos that came about as a result of what photographers call pre-visualization. The night before I took this photo, a friend and I were camped outside Yosemite National Park on the east side of Tioga Pass. I convinced my friend to drive through the early morning darkness all the way across Yosemite to arrive at the trail to Taft Point more than an hour before dawn. We then hiked down to Taft Point in the darkness to catch the moon as in hung over Yosemite Valley in the quiet pastel light of early morning. (On the right side of the frame in the distance is El Capitan.)
