Photo: Order and Chaos converge as clouds near the summit of El Capitan, Yosemite National Park, California
SHARE THIS PHOTO
This image of clouds near the summit of El Capitan, on of the largest singular granite rocks on the planet, is one of my favorite images from Yosemite National Park. This shot, which was taken from the floor of Yosemite Valley looks up nearly 3,000 feet of sheer granite cliffs. The cooler air condenses and forms clouds that hug the rock.
One of the greatest photo lessons I ever got from my old boss was how as a photographer, the more that we could capture or create a sense of order out of a chaotic world, the more meaningful our photos would be. Here in this shot, the way the curve of the cloud so closely mimics the curving shape of El Capitan seems to create that sense of order out of two chaotic elements.
