Evening over Half Dome from Olmsted Point
Photo: Evening light and pink sky over Half Dome from Olmsted Point, Yosemite National Park, California
One of the many places to see Half Dome in Yosemite National Park is from Olmsted Point along the Tioga Pass Road. While Half Dome is a good distance away from Olmsted Point, it is one location where visitors can get an up close and detail example of the geological process known as glaciation -- the act of the landscape being shaped by the existence and movement of glaciers, in this case from the last Ice Age, and glacial polish where the moving glacier polished rock like the granite in Yosemite National Park, to a smooth sometimes marble-like finish. This is what you see in the foreground area of this image from Olmsted Point.
