Approaching Vogelsang Pass in the Cathedral Range of Yosemite National Park and the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, I was caught by this scene of the sun setting behind the rocky mountain ridge of Vogelsang Peak. A small notched opening in the rocks along the ridgeline made a perfect place to position my camera to capture a sunburst of rays as the sun passed behind the mountain ridge.
The sunburst effect as seen in photos like this is caused by using a small aperture opening in the lens.
