Cathedral Range from Clouds Rest

After hiking more than seven miles from Tioga Pass Road to the summit of Clouds Rest, I sat alone for several hours as I waited patiently for the sunset. Looking toward the east after the sun had dipped below the western horizon, I was delighted to see the pink pastel light of alpenglow paint the clouds that hung over the distant granite mountains of the Cathedral Range. There's something really special to sit alone on one of Yosemite National Park's most beloved mountains while watching the sunset, and to see this line of rugged mountain peaks lining the horizon was a wonderful reminder of how wilderness needs nothing from us to be pure and beautiful in its own right.
