Half Dome in winter Yosemite Valley
Photo: Clouds streaming off Half Dome in winter as seen from Cooks Meadow, Yosemite Valley, Yosemite National Park, California
This beautiful scenic shot of clouds streaming off the summit of Half Dome at sunrise following a fresh dusting of snow as long been one of my favorite winter season shots of Yosemite Valley. With an elevation around 4,000 feet, the surrounding mountains above Yosemite Valley are often covered in snow throughout winter, but fresh snow on the valley floor is much more rare. I loved seeing the clouds frame the curving top of Half Dome, and it was an ideal morning to frame this monolith set against a prominent elm tree in the middle of Cooks Meadow.
