Cold winter storm clouds can envelope Half Dome and Yosemite Valley as seasonal weather systems move across California and the Sierra Nevada. Being in the mountains when the storms bring clouds, rain, and snow is quite an experience. In Yosemite Valley, it is especially nice in those moments when a storm first begins to clear, and the huge rock monoliths like Half Dome and El Capitan reveal their presence with tiny bits of land floating like islands in a sea of clouds. That was exactly the case with this shot of Half Dome when the clouds parted just enough to reveal the snow-capped summit floating among the clouds.
