Back when I was acting in college, one of my all-time favorite scenes was performing the closing act of Inherit the Wind, the dramatized tale of the famous Scope’s Monkey Trial that pit the Evolutionists against the Creationists.
Yesterday it was announced in the news that Darwin’s Missing Link had been found. Although the ‘discovery’ actually happened about 25 years ago, fate has it that the world is just now learning about it. If you read the comments at the end of this article, you’ll see the dabate continues to rage as fiercly as it did nearly ninety years ago.
I don’t want to encourage a similar debate on this blog. Please believe as you see fit. Personally, I get the greatest sense of the wonder over creation and all that has taken place over billions of years. There have been a few times when I’ve enjoyed being able to draw a direct connection to myself through all of history; from the big bang, to all that stemmed from that moment, to me touching a fossil millions of years old, and thinking of all that has occurred since then, bringing us to where we are as a living planet today.
And if you don’t think that this is a big deal in the scientific world, please note that after only a single day in the news, Google deemed it important enough to be their lead doodle for the day.
