This has been one of the busiest weeks I’ve had in awhile. It started on Monday morning at 9:00am, and ended Friday at 4:45PM. Eewww, it sounds like I have a real job! But this ‘fun’ just didn’t stop at 5:oopm when the whistle blew.
At least everything started off with a fun weekend. My wife and I stayed at the San Francisco Downtown Marriott hotel as a belated New Years celebration getaway. The only down side was that we had a smaller room than our stay last year, and the View Lounge was closed for construction. Now all and all, that wouldn’t have made too much of an impact on this week, except for the fact that I only managed about 6 hours sleep for the whole weekend, thanks to a brutal case of insomnia on that Friday night.
So Monday morning bright and early, FEDEX drops of the color proofs to my upcoming book, Backroads of the California Wine Country. You can see some sample photos from the book in my Special Wine Country Print Collection. I wish I could say I was pleased with the way things looked. The layout looked great, but I was less than impressed with how the printer handled the color in my photographs. However, in the end, my editor & publisher agreed to have the printer go back and fix their mistakes. I’m now looking forward to approving a new set of proofs that they’ll be supplying to me next week.
Finally, the week ended with a classic “you want it when?!” as a prominent new client, Victoria’s Secret was negotiating for the use of one of my photos as a backdrop. All was going smooth until Thursday morning, when they gave me the go ahead on the order. That was great news. The “We need it delivered by Feb.1st.” was the real challenge. But thanks to everyone involved along the production line, I was able to ftp a 1.2Gb file to a printer on Thursday evening. Btw- it takes exaclty 8hrs to ftp a 1.2Gb file using cable modem.
Sheesh!! – gotta love being busy. Bonus point were added when I checked one of my agency web site and saw 5 new image sales in one day.
I need to rest now…. Everybody have a great weekend.
