Photo: Line of photographers at the bridge over the Virgin River, looking toward the Watchman, Zion Canyon, Zion National Park, Utah
This is only a small section of the photographers lined up trying to make their own icon image of The Watchman and the Virgin River. In some spots, tripods legs were practically interlocked, and photographers that wandered in late walked up and down the length of the bridge looking for a spot to squeeze in.
I have only one word for this scene: “Mooooo!”
Zion in October. I love November… I just got back from Zion this afternoon. I saw a grand total of four tripods yesterday. Talked with one of the photogs this morning at breakfast. Cool dude.
Arches was another story though. I overheard one guy say he was professional since the year I was born, and yet he only discovered a polarizer a few years ago based on the recommendation from another photographer, because he’s “old-school”. About 50% of the people at Arches were photographers. I saw none at Island in the Sky. I contemplated going up to Delicate Arch not to shoot scenic photos, but to photograph photographers getting into fights.
