With a post titled “A New Beginning”, you might think I would be referring to today’s Inauguration of President Obama. I certainly do wish him, Us, and the planet well.
However, I get to announce my own New Beginning, or rather, the release of my new Portfolios. This was one of my first business-related New Year’s Resolutions I needed to get done. (Not to mention that it was a long time overdue.)
Late last Fall, I asked on a number of Internet forums and professional photographer groups for feedback about which of three possible styles of Portfolios people preferred viewing. The options were either a static thumbnail gallery, and embedded slide show hosted by PhotoShelter, or a Flash or Java-based presentation.
The results, with a 3:1 preference, were for the static thumbnail gallery. The next most popular option was the flash or java-based options. Most surprising was that almost no one favored the embedded option offered by PhotoShelter, the company that hosts my searchable image archive. It seems that most found it too slow or cumbersome, even despite an option I liked, to view images at full screen. I also liked the ease of using the embedded gallery & slide show from the photographer side, but I simply can’t ignore the voiced preference of viewers.
So, please allow me to say “thank you” again to all of the people that were nice enough to share their thoughts and opinions. And with that, I’d like to again invite everyone to visit my new Portfolio(s). The image shown above is from the Scenic Landscapes collection.
Looks like you’ve been busy Gary. Great photos.
I think the gallery looks terrific. Do you use some type of software that automatically creates the HTML pages for each image, or is it more or less done manually? Mine are all PHP driven so I don’t create each page, but I think someday I may need to go beyond using Coppermine and need to be looking at my options.
This image is terrific BTW. Terrific comp as usual – and fitting for the day.
