And speaking of reading, writing, and watching

Most here will know that my recent recovery period allowed me a chance to catch up on some reading, both online and offline. I want to take a quick moment to pass along a few items that have caught my interest in the online world. I hope that if you’re not familiar with these, that you’ll have a chance to check them out, and maybe find them of interest like I did.

The first item of note is a fabulous new photography business related weblog called STRICTLY BUSINESS, brought to you by the ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers). There’s a permanent link to both the ASMP and the Strictly Business weblog on the sidebar of my own weblog, as well as on my Business Resources page.

Several people have posted or emailed me a link to Transform, a great short film by Zack Arias literally just days before I had my accident. I didn’t get to see it until nearly a month into my recovery, but man oh man, is this a well done little clip, file under: must see.

Also, I came across another great stock photographers weblog called Stock Photos and Funny Pictures by photographer John Lund. He has some really great posts on his site. The few that first caught my attention were about keywording and the state of the Stock Photo industry. (Imagine that!) There are also some photographer interviews and creative articles about how he creates some of his very commercialized concept imagery on his main web site. Very much worth the look.

Finally, just this evening, I finished reading a great three part series written by travel photographer David DuChemin called, The Photographer and the Blog. (Part One, Part Two, Part Three) The basic premise of the series is the question, “Should Photographers Blog?” I thought I’d left a reply there, but not sure if it showed up. I mentioned than when people ask me about my own blog, or if they should blog, I point out the following:

Know what you want to say.
Know to whom you are saying it.
Know why you are saying it.
And finally: Develop and write (speak) with your own voice.

Richard Wong in his Field Report gives an excellent write-up after attending a recent ASPP Event called “Copyright & Copywrongs in Image Licensing” that I posted on my own blog a few weeks ago.

Happy Reading, or in Zach’s case, watching.
