Dead See Rolls

Now, I’m not talking about a biblical discovery, but for the photography world, it’s a pretty darn amazing find. The New York Times has reported the finding of thousands of frames of film from famous war photographer Robert Capa. One of Capa’s most well know shots is “The Falling Soldier”, which shows a member of Spanish Militia falling to the ground the moment he was shot. However, some debate has raged over the years, (and in similar fashion to the famous kiss between the sailor and nurse in Times Square at the end of WWII) as to whether this image had been staged. Apparently in the very early days of war reportage, it was common for photographers to stage, or replay and event. The finding of this film could now settle that debate, if there is a roll of film with the before and after frames. And let’s not forget all of the other great images that might not have ever been seen if this cache of developed fill had remained lost and forgotten.

Be sure to check out the NYT multimedia slideshow to see some of the newly discovered images.

never heard of that shot, but sounds like the Flag over Iwo Jima picture. I’d rather not find out the answer as its more inspiring to believe that someone was able to capture a great moment without cheating.
