One of the things I noticed while watching the developing trends and growth of the Microstock arena, and especially with the photographers involved there, is a very strong demand for immediate gratification. In psychology terms, this would be like the basic baby or toddler that has not developed any sense of patience. I’m Hungry. Feed Me Now! I’m wet. Change me now! I’m bored with this toy. Bring me a new toy now!
As a typical example, I noted on a forum that one particular contributor was complaining that she had not gotten a ‘payout’ since April 1st. Geez-louise, you actually survived 10 whole days without the few dollars from your micro agency. Perhaps you should get a medal for enduring all of your stress and anguish. I’m afraid if this poor woman ever had to wait for a $800.00 RM Brochure license to go through an ad agency accounting department in 30, 45, 60, or heaven forbid, 90 days, she might be near suicidal with angst.
I imagine a rat pressing a bar trying to get its tiny food pellet; “Come on…c’mon! Gimme, gimme, gimme. (press) (press) (press) – “oh! look…a little treat. How cool is this?”  – repeat.
Perhaps it should be referred to as “sellout” instead of “payout”. Most people who work regular jobs for a living don’t even get paid every 10 days. But then again, microstock is for the delusional.
