I know most people do a “Top 10”, but in our family, thirteen is a lucky number. (Both of our kids were born on a 13, and we were married on a 26) So without further delay, here’s my top 13 photos of 2010. Picture: Total Lunar Eclipse on the winter Solstice, December 20-21, 2010
According to NASA, this was the first such total lunar eclipse to fall on the winter solstice since 1638, 372 years ago, and only the second such eclipse of the last 2010 years, since the start of the Common Era. In other words, it was pretty darn special.

Those are great – looks like you had a wonderful year Gary!
Great choices Gary. You went to some amazing places this year.
A beautiful series Gary! I’m personally most moved by the Bowling Ball Beach shots – stunning work. Thank you for being inspiring!!
Nice work, Gary! Love BB Beach!
Wonderul selection Gary. It was clearly a very good year for you.
Great set Gary. Count me in the BB Beach crowd. That place looks magical.
Hey Gary, nice “Best Of” photos. I had to take a double take on that Lunar Eclipse photo, I thought it was mine 🙂 Here’s mine http://www.organiclightphoto.com/gallery/enlarged.asp?num=143&cat=Fire&returnindex=0&returnpage=1
This is a really fantastic retrospective on 2010, Gary. Some of these I remembered (and remember liking when I saw them), others are new to me, but are very lovely.
Can’t wait to see what 2011 brings…
In a sea of nothing but compliments I am going to give a bit of a mixed review. Not of you as a photographer at all. Nearly anyone knows you are a master photographer, and certainly far more skilled and professional than myself. I hope what I say is helpful to you as an artist: some images in this mix are wonderful and different from anything else around, some are not. Some of those that are not may pay the bills better. I just get tired of people sugar coating their comments and not offering suggestions for improvement. Hopefully I can say something that will help you as an artist. I am naturally biased against sunsets and mountain peaks with just the top drenched in red alpenglow, mainly because many of them tend to look similar. You know from my comments before that I am an admirer of much of your work. I like “Full moon resting on rock precipice…” and “Morning Mist…Mendocino Coast” the best. Even though it is a sunset too, I also like “Seagul and Crashing Wave…Jughandle State Reserve” because it has an unusual quality and seems more unique.
Excellent series Gary, most of all I loved that last Bowling Ball Beach photograph! Have a great 2011, and keep brewing!
Gary, your sublime coverage of California always appeals to me. Of these, I like “bowling ball beach” the best but they are all strong. Congrats on a great year!
Your Bowling Ball beach shots are incredible! I will have to think about getting out there!
Thanks for the picture collection!
