A Sampling of the Wonderful Outdoor Sidewalk Wall Street Art of Cancun & the Maya Riviera, Mexico

My lack of any photographic travel during the new Covid-19 era of 2020 has been getting to me. To stay on the positive side of things, I’m catching up on a few older projects. Also, I’m looking forward to processing and sharing images that have been sitting idle on dusty hard drives. First up: A delightful array of interesting street art and outdoor wall art murals encountered over the course of several trips to the Mexican state of Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula. Among the locations represented below are works of street art from places like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Isla Mujeres.

Of these places, Isla Mujeres was like a large community outdoor artwork gallery. The island is a popular tourist destination, primarily from day-use visits via a short ferry ride from the nearby resort city of Cancun. Some companies even offer guided artwork tours through the island’s various neighborhoods. But even if you just walk through the main tourist area near the ferry dock in Playa Norte, you’ll see plenty of walls decked out with some really wonderful works of outdoor street art.  I hope you enjoy these great displays of street art as much as I did.

Impossible to choose a favorite, they are all so wonderful, brilliant. There is so much spirituality in them. It shows clearly that art is deeply imbedded within the human soul. You don’t find copies of the Wall Street Journal deep in the ancient caves or carved into the rocks… art just bursts forth, spontaneously, from the spirit within, if we let it.

These images brightened up my day, especially the shark in fantasyland, which resembles colorful tile work, and the jaguar/man, which suggests deep animal-human connections. Thanks for sharing these.
