Plane Spotting at LAX
I know the song is called “Leaving on a Jet Plane;” Part of me wishes that was me ‘cuz I’d love to be on board a jet plane right now zipping off to somewhere (read: anywhere) out of the country. However, in light of the continuing pandemic, I’m keeping my feet on the ground for the next few months while I watch as vaccines and lowering infection rates hopefully continue to get better.
Last month, on my first trip away from my home in a very, very long time, I got to do the next best thing for someone like me; getting up close and personal with some of these big international jets while plane spotting at LAX.
“Someone like me,” you ask? Indeed, since I’m a self-professed armchair pilot. I took and passed aviation ground school before I even had my driver’s license learning permit. Unfortunately, I never made it into a cockpit. I quickly realized my math-addled brain just wasn’t cut out for dealing with all of the numbers and calculations — at least back when there weren’t any computers – and even owning a Texas Instruments Calculator was like having a status symbol on your desk. So yeah, I’m an avid plane-watcher.
On my recent trip to visit family in San Diego, I had a chance to spend some time at my favorite plane spotting food spots, the In & Out Burger on Sepulveda Blvd right next to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). As I sat and watched these giant planes fly by — almost close enough to seemingly reach out and touch — I kept thinking of what life would have been like had I been able to pursue a career as an airline pilot. Oh well; Maybe in the next life…
In the meantime, check out some of the photos below. The last one really gives a sense of just how close these planes are flying.
If you’re also a plane buff like I am, feel free to share this post using one of those magic buttons below.
Thanks for looking.
Again, many thanks for looking, and I hope you enjoyed these images.
