I’ve been busy building and rebuilding a few new galleries, and a new Home page. You can click on the image below to get a first live look at the new home page, and the links to the new galleries.
The biggest change I’ve been meaning to make all year, but was delayed due to book projects, had been updating the site to include larger images. My site was designed back when 50% of the computer monitors on the planet used a resolution of 800×600. Today, less than 4% use a monitor that size. As monitor resolution got bigger and better, my thumbnail and gallery images seemed to get proportionally smaller and smaller. The other big change is been a dynamic navigation bar near the top of each new page.

Nice layout and fantastic images of course, Gary. I think you could do w/o out that background image as the colors are a bit of a distraction. Also when I clicked the slideshow image, it didn’t take me anywhere.

Believe it or not, that’s how the site was originally designed by my web designer years ago. I actually veto’d the Bkgrnd because at the time, most households were still on dial-up modems, and page loading speed had an impact on original page ranking. Now that the solid majority of users have some form of high speed access, I gotta admit, I was darn sick of the plain gray background. So I’m actually happy to have some extra graphic element. Hopefully it’s not TOO distracting.

Looks good Gary. One suggestion I would have would be to keep the drop down menu bar available on all pages – seems to work well from the Home screen, but then you have to go back to the home screen to get to the menu bar again.

Comments appreciated, and am working on it. I’ll be going through the site making those changes within the next weeks and months. I need to start somewhere in getting my new galleries up, but didn’t have time to get it all done. You know the deal, first steps, big mountain…
