Half Dome at sunset from Clouds Rest, Yosemite

One of the great hikes in Yosemite National Park is a 14-mile round trip adventure from Tioga Pass Road to the summit of Clouds Rest. This beautiful mountain peak located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada offers a magnificent view out to the west overlooking Half Dome and the distant Yosemite Valley. This image was taken at sunset looking toward Half Dome, with Glacier Point off in the distance. The summit of Clouds Rest is just under 10,000 feet in elevation, but is more than 1,000 feet higher than the summit of Half Dome. Most of the people that climb to the top of Clouds Rest as a day hike start next to Tenaya Lake, or spend the night backpacking to the nearby Sunrise High Sierra Camp. Either way, the view from the top of Clouds Rest offers an amazingly scenic vista looking out over the amazing geology and landscape of Yosemite National Park's Cathedral Range.
