Picture: Annual lighting of the original fresnel lens at Pigeon Point Lighthouse, San Mateo County coast, California
This week I’m delighted to announce I’m the special guest judge for friend and fellow photographer Guy Tal, who’s been running a series of weekly photo contests on his web site. I was allowed to choose the theme, and I’ll also be choosing the winner.
The theme I chose is “The Edge of Light”. Here’s what I wrote about the theme:
Photography was originally known as the “art of fixing a shadow” – The shadow created an edge; it defined where light was, and where light wasn’t. It also created the perception of depth and contrast in a monochromatic two-dimensional media. With the advent of color media, different colors were also used to create similar visual contrast and depth. What I want to see is your use of the medium, and the guiding idea of showing me dramatic or compelling interpretations of the theme, The Edge of Light.
I encourage readers to check out the contest and send in your favorite photo you feel matches the theme.
BTW, don’t think that I’m partial to lighthouses just because I chose to use an image of one for this post. I’m completely open to any and all subject matter that you feel fits the topic.
