Mendocino Coast Photos taken during a Fort Bragg Weekend Getaway, California.
Earlier this fall, my wife and I made a long weekend getaway trip to Fort Bragg on the Mendocino County coast. This was a nice couples getaway weekend vs. one of my dedicated photo trips, so my photographic pursuits were more in line with what I call the “Casual Tourist Mode.” In this mode, I’m not shooting for any specific goals or reasons, nor am I under any pressure to produce a certain level of content the way I would with a travel assignment or book project.
The lack of any self-imposed photo production pressure is also an important way of keeping these times with my wife being more about *us* and not *my* photography. Trust me, this is a good thing. 🙂
However, when I do take photos, I’m not doing it in a causal ‘weekend tourist’ fashion. I’m still a professional travel photographer at my core. This means I’m looking at each composition and taking the time to examine the story I’m trying to tell with each image. So with that said, I hope these photos of the Mendocino coast give you a nice flavor of the local area and the town of Fort Bragg itself.
So on with the photos… I hope you enjoy them and I’d love to know if you have a favorite image or two. 🙂

Gorgeous!!!
Fascinated by Alpenglow at Sunset…colors are smashing!!
Such a beautiful area; although it has been 30+ years since I visited there, the area still is as gorgeous as I remember. No doubt it has grown significantly, as most coastal regions have. Thank you for kindling the memories and the update on such a beautiful region. I particularly enjoyed the Russian Gulch pictures, as that area called to me the most when I was there last. Happy Holidays to you and your family. PS- I also love love love the Gualala area, specifically the Sea Ranch chapel that is — or was — freely open to the public. The magnificent redwood chapel with it’s hand crafted everything, stained glass and spires and unique architecture, as well as the bay filled with white pelicans and the summery vibes the area had…more memories from that same long ago trip.
Picture #16, I have not seen that mural yet. It has been a while since we have been to Fort Bragg. Picture #19 with the hiker’s shadows is interesting too. I may have gone scuba diving in that water years ago. As usual all the photographs are excellent.
