Cathedral Peak Mountain Reflection
Photo: Cathedral Peak reflected in an alpine tarn near Upper Cathedral Lake, Yosemite National Park, California
Cathedral Peak is the namesake mountain of the Cathedral Range, a string of high alpine mountain peaks that run along the crest of the Sierra Nevada through Yosemite National Park. Cathedral Peak is typically accessed by hiking along the John Muir Trail out of Tuolumne Meadows. Cathedral Peak is a beautiful mountain peak that in this shot is reflected in a small alpine tarn not far from Upper Cathedral Lake. The Cathedral Lakes are a popular backpacking destination in the summer, but this shot was taken in fall after a series of heavy early-season snowstorms. When I hiked there with a buddy, there were many places along the trail where we were hiking through snow. It was great finding these small little ponds rimmed with snow giving the image a slightly cold winter feeling.
